Spring is springing ... Eugene Oregon Photographer

I think it would be premature to say "spring has sprung", so I'm going with "is springing"... ;0)

My parents have a tradition that they always plant fruit trees right away whenever they move into a new home. When Corey and I bought our first home, we continued the tradition, but due to forested shade, and deer, and soil that's composed of 80% rock, we've never managed to get any fruit trees going at our current home. :0( However, we have wild cherry trees that have been on this property far longer than our house, so maybe they can count?! I love the contrast of the scratchy moss growing right next to the fragile cherry blossoms!

Another thing I love is the smell of Daphne, and I planted one right near our door:

Once upon a time (pre-photography obsession), I was an avid gardener. I was telling a neighbor how I'd been reading all sorts of gardening books, and compiling lists of what I might be able to grow here--you know, plants that thrive in clay and rock, with no sun, lots of pine needles, and tons of deer... She said, "That's nice, honey, but the deer up here don't read those books." LOL! She was soooo right. I wince to think of all the bygone plants I've attempted to give residence here... But one sure survivor is magnolia! I've got 3 different kinds so far. This is a star magnolia:

Lenten Rose is another favorite "survivor":

I love the chartreuse green on both the leaves and flowers of these, and I hope to add pink and purple Lenten Roses to my collection eventually!
