Occasion: Kendra is 5!

I can't believe my baby is FIVE!!!?! She is full of a zest for life that I didn't even know was possible. She is fun, and compassionate, and waaaay too smart. ;0) I love you, sweet girl!

When she's not bouncing off a wall somewhere, she's thinking. I'm thankful to have caught a little proof:

Wedding: Adam & Haley

Amber and I had the adventure of a lifetime on our whirlwind trip to Alaska to shoot this wedding weekend before last... I'll have a novel-long post to share after Amber posts hers. (I don't want to steal her thunder, you know!) To see a couple of her sneak-peek images, check them out here and here. Thank you SO much again, Amber, for bringing me along!! I can't wait to see where we find ourselves next!?

Family: The R's (Part II)

This family holds a very special place in my heart. Andrew was my boss for the first 8 years of this century, and he is an incredibly gifted, humble servant leader. In listening, challenging--always challenging, and encouraging, he sacrificially invested in helping me reach my full potential as a speaker, and moreover, as a human being. I am forever indebted. (Quite literally--Andrew has a Master's in Counseling, and the running office joke among our team as we'd get into deep discussions was, "Uh oh... Did I just cross over into billable time?")

And Emily is one of those Moms who always leaves me inspired to be a better Mom as I head home. She gracefully delights in her family, and is the epitome of Philippians 4:5: "Let your gentleness be evident to all..."

Andrew had me snap a few for potential use on his new web site... I don't imagine this next image will be in the running, but I couldn't resist posting it. This is the expression that greeted me for much of the 8 years we worked together. It's Andrew's I'm-totally-laughing-at-you-right-now-and-am-not-even-going-to-try-to-hide-it look (You know, like when I would ask if I had just crossed over into billable time):

This one might be more web site worthy:

I don't normally crop images, but I got the itch to crop this one for some reason, and I'm glad I did:

Thanks again for the privilege of photographing your family, Andrew and Emily! And thanks for showing me an amazing new location to shoot, too!

Giving Back: VBS

Another summer project I had (but hadn't gotten around to blogging yet) was covering our church's Vacation Bible School again. SO fun! It was the "Boomerang Express" this year, and my daughter is still singing the songs...

(There are more VBS pics on my hubby's blog, if you want to check them out!)

Giving Back: Candlelighters' Family Camp

I had the great privilege of doing family portraits for Candlelighters' Family Camp again this year, alongside Kim. It was especially fun this time, getting to catch up with many of the families we met last year. It was raining, so we set up under the Craft Shack, and it became a bit of a hang-out. I so enjoyed my day of gabbing it up with Kim and all the other fun Candlelighters' Families and Staff that came and went through our makeshift "studio".

Candlelighters is an amazing organization that serves families of children with cancer. Having worked and volunteered for a non-profit myself, for the better part of the last decade, I am super impressed with their stellar planning and coordination. And the camaraderie among the volunteers is a beautiful thing. How could it not be, when the Volunteer Coordinator just oozes kindness? Jenny Lambert (pictured above with her husband and son) is the Family Events & Volunteer Coordinator, and is based in Portland. If you'd like information on volunteering for Candlelighters, contact Jenny at candlelightersvolunteers@gmail.com.

I'm supposed to be packing for Alaska (I leave tomorrow to shoot another wedding with Amber--woohoo!!)... but I just couldn't resist playing with a few images from this morning's session. So, R Fam, here's a sneak peek. Love you guys! More to come when I get back from my trip!

Some still subjects!

I usually have my shutter speed sky high, to freeze the motion of my human subjects, so I've enjoyed the diversion of slowing the shutter waaay down, and capturing a few still subjects while on family hikes the last couple months...

First up, a couple shots from the John Day Fossil Beds:

Next, the City of Rocks:

This one is from Sweet Creek Falls:

And these last two are from Waterfalls Loop Trail:
